The Daily Breath of God
daily devotional

You saw me before I was born.  Every day of my life was recorded in your book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.  How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.  They cannot be numbered!  I can’t count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

Psalm 139:16 – 18 NLT

The greatness of God, his love and his grace are spoken here.  His grace gives us the ability to relax and rejoice all at the same time.  When we are living overwhelmed by his grace we become acutely aware of the magnificence of God’s love towards us.  Grace changes our values which automatically impact our attitude for the day we find ourselves in.  Living in a grace condition can remove fears, anxiety and much of the mistrust about others. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God, They cannot be numbered!  On this new day may these verses be the definition of your thinking and emotions. If this is true to you, you will be pleased at the way you process info and so will those around you.  This is a good day to smile and give thanks to the one who desires to overwhelm you with his grace.  When you wake up, he will still be with you!  Enjoy!

Is there a conflict, then, between God’s law and God’s promises?  Absolutely not!  If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it.  But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus ChristGalatians 3:21, 22 NLT

What is so amazing about God’s grace is that it gives something to us that we cannot ever accomplish by ourselves.  It is called freedom or known as a new life.  This new life is given through what God promised his love through grace would do in Jesus the Christ.  Sin can never love; it can only lust because it is always self-seeking.  Now here is the kicker, the freedom of God’s grace lets us choose how we will respond to our opportunities. We can now see clearly the difference between new life and being a prisoner.  Bless those who curse you or curse those who curse you.  Which one lives in the freedom of a new life?  Today let your heart relax and be refreshed in who you are because of the promise in Jesus Christ.  His grace lets you choose what direction your thoughts and emotions will go.  One will give you a sweet relief and one will strap you to the ground.  We now know why we sing – “Amazing grace that saved a wretch like me.” Enjoy!

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5:14,15

What a wonderful joy life is when we discover the freedom of grace. There is a relaxation in the attitudes, emotions and actions of those who have realized the power of Christ’s love. The home and the work place become visual examples of kindness, transparency without regret or condemnation and a happiness that expresses itself through thanksgiving. There is a great freedom for people who live without being angry, being irritated and using words of condemnation. On this new day enjoy the freedom of thinking, feelings and acting upon the love of Christ for you in all your circumstances. This won’t just make you happy; it will bless everyone around you. Enjoy your journey!

This happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many. 2 Corinthians 1:9-11

Pray or prayers, what awkward words these are for so many. Often people are not sure how or what to pray for and therefore they pray very little and miss much of the joy and power of our Lord. In God’s grace that is through Jesus the Christ, prayer becomes a natural response from us to the Lord because of his great love and kindness. Here in prayer we find refreshment, not discouragement. When thanksgivings is our foundation in prayer, our prayers change and refresh situations and individuals. Here lives can become new through our prayers of grace. On this new day may you begin it with a prayer of thanksgiving to our Lord. What comes next in your heart and mind, bring before him with the assurance that what you are praying is now in the process of being accomplished. Then many will give thanks.

God made him (Jesus the Christ) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

Sometimes along our journey through life we seem to be confused about Jesus the Christ. We begin to live our lives as though he were some kind of religion or a system of beliefs by which we judge ourselves and others as to our standing with God. Well here is the beauty of God’s grace, that he took us, full of condemnation about ourselves and others and put it all on Jesus the Christ so that we would have the freedom to live our life in the beauty, the peace and the joy of our Lord. On this new day may your heart and mind experience the freedom of his grace. May his peace and joy be yours in every detail of your life as you rejoice before him. All those who meet you today will experience the beauty of our Lord through your words, your actions and your expressions. In Him you will just flat out enjoy the day. Blessings!

He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. Proverbs 15:31

Our natural nature does not like being told what to do and if left to its own, has a difficult time listening to correction which feels like criticism. Grace gives us a different ability to hear, see and understand. When living overwhelmed by grace we do not hear a rebuke as criticism, but as a good voice to help and encourage us along our journey. This being true, we actually feel refreshed, encouraged, loved and valued. On this new day, may you enjoy your journey of God's grace and the freedom it brings. May you have the freedom to receive impute from others which allows you to walk and live among the wise. Your home, work, and community will never be the same. Enjoy!

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkenedRomans 1:21,22
It is one thing to believe that there is a God or even to believe in God.  The beauty of grace, which is the power of God's love given without condemnation, is meant to change how we think of God and therefore how we feel about ourselves. Grace lets us not just believe in him but to know God in a way that refreshes our emotions and therefore brings the desire to express joy and thanksgiving.  The man or woman that lives with a personality of joy will automatically give glory to God through their actions.  Today may you delight in finding ways to express joy and thanksgiving.  Let God's grace express through your words and attitudes the beauty of a thankful heart.  In this place you will always be known as an encourager and a delight to those around you.  Some of the most difficult situations are changed by expressions of joy and thanksgiving.  Enjoy!

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder.  Write them deep within your heart.  Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.  Proverbs 3:3,4
Being overwhelmed by grace gives us a great relief in our thinking, our living, along with the privilege of esteeming others as more important than ourselves with the result of gladness and joy.  Loyalty and kindness are two beautiful parts of grace and when they are allowed to be communicated through our lives, our Lord is blessed and people are refreshed.  That being true, we then are filled with joy and goodness. In this place there is no regret or sorrow.  Today may you enjoy these expressions of his grace through you.  Let your life have situations for loyalty and kindness to be seen through you.  Simple things like loyalty and kindness bring great refreshment which can be described as finding favor with both God and people. Enjoy!

LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?  Who may live on your holy hill?  He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, who keep his oath even when it hurts. Psalm 15:1-4
Heavenly Father, these are truths that overwhelm mankind.  These simple truths seem to elude us along our journey. When we find ourselves doing and living just the opposite of these simple truths, we then feel accused and at times worthless.  Father, it is in this place and condition that you have given and expressed your grace to us through Jesus the Christ.  Your grace cleanses us from the power and condemnation of our sin. Your grace gives us freedom of our emotions, thoughts, and words to experience your glory, rejoice in your life and live as an encouragement to others. Today may we live overwhelmed by your grace in the freedom of your love without condemnation and be a living expression of the good news of grace found in Jesus the Christ. Today these truths describe who we now are because of your grace given in Jesus Christ. Enjoy!
